National Readathon Day

CPL is joining The National Book Foundation, Penguin Random House, Goodreads and Mashable to raise awareness for literacy. Join us for a marathon reading session at any branch library on Saturday, January 24 from 12:00-4:00 PM.

Train Time

Central Library

Train Time is for train lovers of all ages! See model trains wind through the Central Library in this special yearly exhibit.

Shobou Con

Central Library

Last year this event was so big, we have to move to a bigger building this year! Our fourth annual anime convention is fun for the entire family! Featuing a cosplay contest, crafts art and a variety of panels. Keep up to date on all things Shobou Con through the CPL Blog.

National Volunteer Week

Our volunteers are vital to the library and allow CPL to provide a variety of services to the community. We are always appreciative of those men, women and children who donate their time and service to the library. National Volunteer Week is a special opportunity for us to recognize our volunteers. National Library Week
April 12-18

With the American Library Association and other libraries across the world, CPL celebrates National Library Week every year in April. Join us for special events celebrating libraries and library customers. This is also the week we offer Food for Fines, which allows customers to bring in non-perishable food items in exchange for their fines being waived.

National Bookmobile Day
April 15
All branches

The first bookmobile in the U.S. is acknowledged to have started in Maryland in 1905! Bookmobiles provide outreach services to those who may be unable to visit the library. At CPL, we provide classes and services to local elementary schools through the use of our Bookmobile.

Freeplay is a Modern and Classic Video Game Festival where gaming fans of all ages can come to the library to play all kinds of games, for free, all day long. Featuring: more than 1,000 games on 20 different consoles, tabletop games, pinball machines and arcade games.

Día del niño, or Children's Day, is celebrated throughout the world as a way to recognize the important role of children in the community and to promote a sense of understanding among young people of all nations. Join us for a variety of games and activities designed for children and their families.

Free Comic Book Day

Indian River Library

Free Comic Book Day is a national event where comic book stores, bookstores and libraries give a free comic book to customers. CPL celebrates, not only by giving out comic books (while supplies last), but by dedicating an entire day to comic books and the heroes and villains found within their pages. Stay tuned for a full schedule of events.

Summer Reading Carnival

The Summer Reading Carnival is an annual tradition. Join us as we kick off a fantastic summer of reading! Featuring: hot dogs, sno-cones, games, music and so much more!

Summer Reading
June 20-August 8
All branches

The Summer Reading Program is the largest program we offer at CPL - featuring events for children, teens and adults. Any age can participate in Summer Reading and receive prizes for reaching their reading goal. Sign up starting June 20, and don't forget to celebrate the kick off of Summer Reading with us at the Summer Reading Carnival on Saturday, June 20!

Fantasy and Science Fiction combine at FantaSci! Featuring: a costume contest, panel discussions, authors and fan groups.

South Norfolk Memorial Library

This full-day workshop is designed to provide assistance with creating resumes. It is free and open to anyone who would like help creating a resume from scratch or editing an existing resume.

Monster Fest

Central Library

Monster Fest in an annual one-day Horror Convention for fans of classic horror in films and literature. Featuring: trick-or-treating, panel discussions, a costume contest and a horror movie marathon. Check out for more information.

Holiday Tree Gala

South Norfolk Memorial Library

This Open House event features holiday trees at the South Norfolk Memorial Library. Join the community in celebrating the holidays with CPL.
